Course Description: This course is highly recommended for enthusiastic students who may want to pursue a degree in education or for those who simply want to be creative, interactive, and inspiring. This dynamic course uses creative storytelling, movement, and instruments and songs to improve the physical, emotional, and social development of both regular education and special education students. These students will work together to create and implement hands-on activities concentrating on the enhancement of life skills, the development of fine motor skills, social interaction, teamwork, and music appreciation. The course offers a window into a better understanding of music and how it makes us feel, how it moves us, and how it can be used as a tool to expand our understanding of human interaction. This class involves working with children with significant differences in cognitive, physical and emotional abilities. Some of the requirements include:
1. A professional attitude and strong work ethic.
2. Imagination and Creativity
3. The ability to be a team player.
4. Strong leadership skills and the ability to be a role model.
5. Compliant with confidentiality information.
6. Two faculty references. (see Attached forms)
7. An interview (if further information is required).
Due to logistics such as classroom size and student- to-student ratio there may be a limit to the number of students entered into the course. Past history of behavior, clarity and content of essay responses, attendance, faculty recommendations, and grade level will contribute to the determination of your admission to the course. Faculty recommendations will remain anonymous. Admission to the course will be determined by a panel of at least 3 teachers. An interview may be requested by the teachers at any time.
